12/06/2020Under Gov guidelines had to book an outside table to meet with friends, was a bit worried due to weather, but no need to be. The outside eating area sits... read more under a huge tent, there were leg heaters under the table (they were brill), hot water bottles, blankets we were toasty! There are more heaters on the way apparently so it'll get even better (you do need to wrap up, it is outside and there is only so much they can do to cope with an English winter) but they have really gone to huge effort to make sure you are comfortable. The food was excellent, the service was brilliant with happy, friendly and attentive staff and we had an excellent night. It got busy and that was horrible wet Thursday so I would recommend booking.
All in all an excellent evening, great to get out with mates, no time limit on table, no pressure to order, eat and leave that you find in other places. I had the chicken burger which I usually avoid elsewhere as it can disappoint but it was lovely, perfect in fact. Well done all at the Crown, it was my first visit (the others with me have been and rated it highly) and I will definitely be back.Bubbas_Bloke

11/04/2020I booked an outside table on a Friday night to meet up with some girl friends complying with tier 2 covid restrictions. This was our first visit to the pub.... read more We were very impressed with all the covid guidelines being followed and social distancing. Our table was under a lovely canopy area with fairy lights and several heaters, we had wrapped up warm too. Thr waitresses were lovely, very warm, genuine and helpful, in particular Joe who was pregnant and still very energetic!! And another young blonde waitress that went out of her way to show me all the different flavours teas I could choose from. The drinks were very reasonably priced and the food being served to other tables looked delicious. So a lovely, warm enjoyable evening with a great but safe atmosphere,we are planning to return in a couple of weeks this time to eat too.

I was also told that the pub was only offering a £20.00, 2 course set menu, to be sold at £10.00 due to the Governments relief. And there's the con. We ordered 2 Lamb Burgers. We didn't want dessert, but, for arguments sake, let's call dessert £4 in a pub, and I have been charged £32.00 for 2 Lamb Burgers. Hiding behind 'Eat Out to Help Out' in order to rip customers off is not a good plan. I wonder how many Burgers they will sell at £16.00ea on Thursday? Is the £20.00 menu the same at the weekend? The scheme is offering 50% of what one spends, not doubling up for the operator.
That said, the food was good and the service very pleasant. Well done to the Team being let down by the duplicitous owners.
It's a shame. It is a nice pub but, with so many other nice places in the area, why go back?D7009EQpaulg

8/05/2020This maybe titled Post Lockdown Dinner, but have to say, lovely welcome, good service and excellent food. Fab 'little' pub, staff welcoming and organised; car park was full (good sign in my eyes) so had to park out on the main road, but not a problem. When we did get a seat and ordered the food it was okay but way over priced for what you got. Portion size was tiny. I’ve been a few times since it reopened but I think this will now be our last. I’ve seen lots of nice pictures posted on Facebook by this place but that’s definitely not what we were served. 5/03/2020We visited The Crown yesterday for the 1st time for a family meal after a crazy couple of hours celebrating our 5 yr olds birthday, what a great decision we... read more made! Kids are very welcome.
The food is delicious & generous portion sizes. The food is real food, cooked in their kitchens NOT the ready sliced meat preserved in gravy from the wholesaler, frozen roast potatoes & veg topped with some bisto that some pubs serve under the guise of a roast dinner.
The atmosphere was buzzy, happy & relaxed whilst still be being able to easily have your own conversation.
We will be back without a doubt. Probably the best roast within a good few miles.
